Media files are the best way of having fun if you are not doing something important on a computer. Music or movies can be played with a click on a button, but it may get difficult if you encounter a format which is less popular. If you need a player which supports more than standard formats, you can try Metal Player. It is compatible with many video or audio formats and due to its familiar design, you will adapt to it quickly.

If you want to use Metal Player, you will have to download an archive which is roughly 2 Mb large. It contains a setup file which will install the player in a few seconds. There is no need to download additional codecs and the software will run on any Windows-powered computer.

If you are familiar with media players like Winamp, you will have no difficulties with Metal Player's interface, because it is designed the same way. The playback options, equalizer, playlist and media library can be found on four separate windows. It is possible to add individual media files or whole folders with the options from the playlist's File menu. Like other similar software, Metal Player supports drag and drop actions, making it easier and faster to load video or audio files.

Also in the playlist's File menu, you will find options for sorting the files, finding and queuing them or saving the playlist. The saved playlists can be found in the media library window, in the Playlists section. Other sections in the media library include lists with the most played tracks, radio stations, local media and suggestions.

Media files can be played back the traditional way, in chronological order or shuffled. Alternatively, you can activate the Intelligent Playback mode in the general settings window. It is basically a shuffle mode, but it will play your favorite tracks which you listen to more frequently. An interesting option, among the Intelligent Playback settings, is the one that doesn't allow you to play bad music. It is activated by default and it is "faded", so you can not disable it.

Metal Player can handle various audio formats, like MP3, WAV, WMA, CDA, MIDI, MP and more. It is also compatible with a wide range of video files, including MP4, AVI, MPG, WMV, DAT, DIVX, FLV and others. Unlike other players, Metal Player will not associate itself with your media files automatically, so your icons will stay the same. You can associate media files manually, in the general settings panel, by clicking a series of check boxes.

Pros

Metal Player is similar to other popular media players, but it is more comfortable and it offers a few extra features. Its Intelligent Playback will play only your favorite tracks. The software gives you a better grip on organizing playlists, making it possible to find your favorite songs or movies much faster.

Cons

There are no additional skins available in the main settings panel. Metal Player's intelligent features will play back your favorite music or videos, regardless of their formats. Its well designed library enables you to organize your files quicker and easier.
